The fluorescence lifetimes of trivalent Sm, Eu, and Tb were measured in their pure salts and in chelates with benzoylacetonate, acetylacetonate, and dibenzoylmethide. The decay times in the chelates are much longer than those in the salts, and several possible explanations of this effect are discussed. (D.L.C.)
