THE FORMATION AND RECOMBINATION OF RADICALS IN THE $gamma$-IRRADIATION OF SOLID AMMONIA AND HYDRAZINE (in Russian)
The formation of radicals and hydrazine in the gamma -irradiation of solid ammonia at -195 deg was investigated. Correlation between the concentrations of these substances leads to the conclusion that the basic process leads to the hydrazine formation in recombination of NH/sub 2/ radicals. Investigations were also carried out on the formation of radicals in the gamma - irradiation of frozen hydrazine. The steady state radical concentration is about 10/sup 29/ radicals/g N/sub 2/H/sub 4/ and exceeds by about an order of magnitude the concentration of radicals formed under the same conditions in solid ammonia. The EPR spectrum of irradiated hydrazine is a singlet. Available data showed that mainly N/sub 2/H and N/sub 2/H/sub 3/ radicals are formed. The relation between radical formation and the radiation dose corresponds to bimolecular radical recombination kinetics. (auth)
