GAMMA RADIATION EFFECTS ON FORMATION AND REACTIONS OF FREE RADICALS IN SOLID AMMONIA AND HYDRAZINE (in Russian)
Reactions of NH/sub 2/ radicals with NH/sub 3/ molecules and recombination of NH/sub 2/ radicals as a result of gamma irradiation of solid ammonia were studied using the method of electron paramagnetic resonance. The data indicated that the radical recombinations induced by gamma rays are the result of migration of free valence electrons and hydrogen atoms. The mechanism results in a maximum radical concentration. Effects of ultraviolet rays on recombination of NH/sub 2/ and N/sub 2/H/sub 3/ radicals in solid ammonium and hydrazine were investigated. It was found that ultraviolet-induced reaction between OH radical and NH/sup 3/ at liquid hydrogen temperature formed NH/sup 2/ and HO/sup 2/ radicals. (R.V.J.)
