Studies were made of the peripheral blood picture in ambulatory patients subjected to different modes of radium therapy for malignant neoplasms of diverse localization. The following deviations were revealed: alterations of the total content of leukocytes, a reduction of the number of iymphocytes, monocytosis, and eosinophilia. The cellular changes were manifested by course of fine dust-like toxic granulation in the protoplasm of neutrophils, fragmentation of neutrophil nuclei, karyorhexis, vacuolization of nuclei, and protoplasm of monocytes and eosinophils. Of the modes of radium therapy the method of rotation irradiation is the most sparing in respect to the picture of the peripheral blood. (auth)
