THE SPECTRUM OF COSMIC RAY MUONS AND PROTONS NEAR SEA LEVEL

Journal Article · · J. Phys. Soc. Japan
OSTI ID:4754241
The momentum spectra of muons and protons are shown. The pion production spectrum was derived from the muon spectrum. The exponent of the pion production spectrum was found to be 2.64 plus or minus 0.05 between 4 and 100 Bev/c. Below 4 Bev/c the exponent fell, reaching 2.07 at 2 Bev,/c, and at higher momenta it increased slightiy. The attenuation length for the nucleonic component was found to vary smoothly with momentum from 130 plus or minus 5 g/ cm/sup 2/ at 3 Bev/c to 100 plus or minus 10 g/cm/sup 2/ at 100 Bev/c. (A.G.W.)
