The protective effects of 47 compounds against radiation injury to the hematopoietic system were tested in rats. Several routes of drug administration, different times of drug administration, and various radiation doses from two Co/ sup 60/ gamma sources were used. There was some suggestion of survival enhancement, but no response in the bone marrow nucleated cell count, when nucleic acid precursors were given soon after a radiation dose of 840 to 860 r. (C.H.)
