>Developments are reported in the classification of submicron airborne particles by electrostatic means. Design features are described of a sampler to classify atmospheric dust particles at a rate approaching 1 cfm. Laboratory studies were carried out on the controlled charging of particles without undue aerosol losses and means of eliminating the interference due to the deposition of small and large particles in the same area. Performance tests were carried out on the charger and the high-volume classifier. Preliminary tests were made on the classification of atmospheric dust. (C.H.)
