RECOIL PROPERITES OF Bi$sup 209$(p,pxn) SPALLATION PRODUCTS
Recoil propenties of products of Bi/sup 209/(p,pxn) reactions at a bombarding proton energy of 450 Mev were measured and compared with those predicted from the Monte Carlo cascade calculations of Metropolis et al. Agreement is good, although it appears that the calculation overestimates the transverse momentum component and does not predict as rapid a change in this component with mass number as that observed. The effect on the results caused by scattering of the recoiling nuclei during the stopping process is shown to be important. Approximate values for the yield ratio Bi/sup 205//Bi/sup 206/ Po/sup 205//Bi/sup 205/ and Po/sup 206//Bi/sup 206 / are presented. The latter two seem higher than those previously reported. Data and calculated results are shown. 60 references. (auth)
