AN INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF METALLIC ADDITIONS UPON THE OXIDATION RESISTANCE OF TITANIUM-MODIFIED NbAl$sub 3$. Quarterly Progress Report No. 1, September 1, 1962-November 30, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4752278

An investigation of the effect of additions of silicon, tin and a combinati on of chromium and silicon on the airoxidation resistance of titanium- modified NbAl/sub 3/ is being conducted. Thermogravimetric studies of alloys prepared by arc melting will be made at 760, 860, 960, 1060, 1160, 1260, and 1360 deg C. A high-temperatare thermogravimetric apparatus is being constructed for the higher temperature runs. Studies have been completed on a portion of the alloys with tin additi ons at the lower temperatures. Phase equilibria studies of the alloys after homogenization and isothermal annealing at 1300 and 1000 deg C are also being conducted to supplement the oxidation studies. (auth)
