THE CROSS SECTION OF THE $sup 58$Ni(n,p)$sup 58$Co REACTION FOR NEUTRONS IN THE ENERGY RANGE 1.6 TO 14.7 Mev

Journal Article · · J. Nucl. Energy, Pt. A and B
The cross section of the reaction Ni/sup 58/(n,p)Co/sup 58/ is measured at several neutron energies in the range 1.6 to 8.3 Mev and at 14.8 Mev. The Co/ sup 58/ produced in the reaction is determined by counting the gamma rays from its decay and the neutron flux is measured with a U/sup 235/ fission counter. The cross section rises from threshold to a value of 657 mb at 8.3 Mev. At 14.8 Mev the cross section is 290 mb. The calculated mean cross section for fission spectrum neutrons from these results is (111 plus or minus 12) mb. (auth)
