A method for fabricating canned reactor fuel rods is described. The rod casing is produced by bending a strip of metal into a tubular form with the longitudinal edges adjacent and outwardly flanged. The tubular part is twisted about its longitudinal axis, thereby giving the flanged longitudinal edges a helical form. The flanges are welded together to form a tube having an external rib formed by the joined flanges. (R.J.S.)
