SCINTILLATING ION EXCHANGE RESIN. Progress Report No. 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4750129

Research was done to synthesize a scintillating, anion exchange resin that can be used for the analysis of radioactive, anionic species in aqueous solution. Plastic, scintillating beads made of cross-linked polyvinyltoluene containing p-terphenyi and POPOP as phosphors were used as the resinuous phase for the introduction of quaternary ammonium groups by chemicai reactions. An exchange capacity of 0.03 milliequivalents per gram of beads was attained with 50% reduction in scintiilation pulse height. Work continues toward improving both exchange capacity and scintillation puise height. (auth)
