EFFECTS OF HALIDE COMPOUNDS ON THE TRITIUM-BENZENE ATOMIC RECOIL (in Russian)

Effects of halide compounds on the yield of labeled products were studied using solid phases of benzene-- iodine, benzene -- methyl iodide, benzene -- bromine, and cyclohexane--iodine and Li/sup 6/(n, alpha )T reactions as the tritium recoil source. It was found that the yield of labeled benzene increases 1.5 fold in the presence of iodine. It was postulated that an intermediate complex forms between tritium atoms and benzene molecules. It is also shown that the scattering energy increases resulting in larger labeled benzene yield. Paramagnetic complexes were observed in dilute benzene solutions. (R.V.J.)
