A protective sheath with fins is designed which is relatively easy and cheap to fabricate and which gives efficient heat transfer without high coolant pressure drop. The sheath has longitudinal splitter fins and longitudinal heat transfer fins located between the splitter fins. Both the splitter and heat transfer ftns are corrugated and can be made easily by extrusion. (D.L.C.)
