A fuel element of the type having helical heat transfer fins intersected by four longitudinal splitter fins is designed with self-stabtlizing means against vibration in coolant flow. The self-stabilizing means consists in one of the splitter fins being provided with reduced depth over most of its length, an outer edge of T-section, a roughened surface, or longitudinal corrugations.
