Fuel elements with helical fins and longitudinal baffles have a tendency to distort their baffles if placed into the reactor while it is still under operation, owing to the effeets of the hot coolant on the edges of the baffles. This tendency can be controlled if the part of each baffle that extends beyond the fins is corrugated. (D.L.C.)
