RADIATION PROTECTION IN VITRO WITH INDOLE SERIES AND OTHER COMPOUNDS (in Russian)

It is shown that indole, indole amine and indole butyric acid are effective in protecting 5-aminomethyl uracil against irradiation. The protective effects of indole in vitro are related to the indole ring reaction with aqueous radiolysis products and do not correlate with the protective effects in vivo. Investigations of the mercapto group indicated the effective protective ability of unitiol and indole derivatives, weaker effectiveness of mercamine, and much weaker effectiveness of histamine. The protective ability of the mercapto group in vitro is related mostly to the free SH group and does not disappear in groups lacking NH/sub 2/. (R.V.J.)
