The action currents of the cerebral cortex and the hypo, thalamus, after whole-body irradiation with 1000 R, and the effect of a prior resection of the cervical sympathetics and the administration of radiation protection substances were encephalographically investigated on rabbits. There was an increased depression of the action currents of the central nervous system and an increased sensitivity of the total organism to the irradiation during the first period after the sympathectomy with decreased effect of the radiation protection substances. However, irradiation 30 to 60 days after the sympathectomy showed a recovery from the damage, which appears partly as an increased radiation resistance. (auth)
