PLUTONIUM FUEL PROGRAM IN CANADA

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4748171
Canadian interest in plutonium is centered on its utilization in thermal reactors. Two possible fuel systems have been studied, Al-- Pu alloys and PuO/ sub 2/-- UO/sub 2/ ceramics. Both fuel types are easily fabricated and have proved to be stable under a wide range of power reactor environmental conditions. Several recent results from Chalk River irradiation tests on Al--Pu alloys and PuO/sub 2/--UOsub 2/ ceramics are cited and supporting out-reactor studies are described. (auth)
