A STUDY OF THE REACTION Al$sup 27$(p,/cap alpha/)Mg$sup 2$$sup 4$

Angular distributions from the reaction Al/sup 27/(p, alpha )Mg/sup 24/ are measured at proton energies of 6.05 to 6.50 Mev. Distributions of alpha particles leading to the ground and first excited states of Mg/sup 24/ are determined separately. It is inferred from these distributions that both direct and compound-nucleus mechanisms are active in the reaction. (T.F.H.)
