PROTONIUM TWO-MESON ANNIHILATION IN THE LIGHT OF UNITARY SYMMETRY

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4745348

Recently reported results about the annihilation of p p into two mesons, either II/sup -/ + II/sup +/, K/sup -/ + K/sup +/, or K/sup 0/ + K/sup 0/, contradict the predictions of the Sakata model. However, these results could fit the octet version of unitary symmetry assuming the two mesons to emerge mainly from the decay of a virtual vector meson or from a pair with similar transformation properties. Predictions concerning the annihilation of anti- baryon + proton or anti-baryon + neutron were made accordingly. R-symmetry seemed to play no role in strong interactions. (auth)
