The extraction of uranium (VI) from sulphuric and nitric acid solutions by Di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid
The partition of U/sup 6+/ between H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ or HNO/sub 3/ solutions a nd the solutions of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (DEHPA) in kerosene was investigated by varying the acid concentrations, solvent and aqueous uranium, and temperature. The partition coefficient for U/sup 6+/ extraction from H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ solutions of varying concentrations decreases with increasing aqueous acidity. With increased organic phase U concentration, the polymeric U--DEHPA complex is formed. For extraction from HNO/sub 3/ solutions, the partition coefficient decreases with aqueous acidity below 3M HNO/sub 3/, but above this value the shape of the extraction isotherm is similar to that obtained with TBP.
