THE SYNERGIC EFFECT OF TRI-n-BUTYL PHOSPHATE IN THE EXTRACTION OF URANIUM(VI) FROM SULPHURIC ACID SOLUTIONS BY DI-(2-ETHYLHEXYL)-PHOSPHORIC ACID

The partition of uranium (VI) between sulfuric acid solutions and solutions containing combinations of di-(2ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid (DEHPA) and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in kerosene was investigated at varying concentrations of sulfuric acid, solvent, and uranium and at different temperatures. The change in the acidity of the organic solutions was also examined. An infrared spectral study was made of the organic phases obtained. The mechanism on the synergic effect of TBP in the extraction of uranium (VI) from sulfuric acid solutions by DEHPA is discussed on the basis of the results obtained. (auth)
