A MEASUREMENT OF $mu$$sup -$ TOTAL CAPTURE RATE IN He$sup 4$
The total capture rate of mu /sup -/ mesons in He/sup 4/ has been rneasured with a slow, high-purity muon beam and a heliurn bubble chamber. The range spectrum of nuclear recoiis is given for the events and compared to recoils from pi /sup -/ stars. When corrected for pi /sup -/ contamination, the number of muon captures in the events was determined. The capture rate obtained is 950 plus or minus 90 sec/sup -1/, in good agreement with theory.
