Equipment to record geomagnetic micropulsations was in operation 15 miles from Christchurch, at the time of the high-altitude thermonuclear explosion over Johnston Island on Juiy 9, 1962. Vertical component variations of the earth's magnetic field were measured by use of a buried loop feeding to a gavanometer and photocell unit follow d by a broad-band amplifier. Overall response of the system was from direct current to 2.0 cps. Magnetic field changes of large magnitude were observed. (W.D.M.)
