NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4740284
In a vapor-cooled nuclear reactor in which the vapor is superheated and a fraction of the superheated vapor is fed to a vaporizer situated outside the reactor and forming the vapor coolant, the vapor before entering the reactor passes a preheater in order to prevent liquid droplets conveyed with the saturated vapor to enter the reactor. This preheater is heated by a fraction of the superheated vapor before it is fed to the vaporizer. According to a first embodiment the preheating is performed in a heat exchanger, while according to another embodiment the preheating is performed by mixing with superheated vapor. Preferably the reactor channels are subdivided into groups in which the coolant temperature is individually controlled, so that the group with the highest heat development works with the lowest coolant temperature and vice versa.
