NUCLEAR REACTOR INSTALLATION

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4740255
A nuclear reactor installation comprises a vapor-cooled reactor provided with pressure tubes enclosing the fuel elements. These pressure tubes are assembled in at least two groups, so that a fraction of the vapor leaving the pressure tubes of the first group serves for vaporizing a liquid medium in order to form the vapor coolant for the reactor, while another fraction therefrom is fed to the pressure tubes of a second group in order to be further superheated before it is led to the turbine. Preferably the pressure tubes of the first group are disposed in a central zone of the reactor, while the pressure tubes of the second group are disposed within a marginal zone of it. The fuel elements placed within the pressure tubes of the second group are provided with a cladding having a heat resistance higher than the heat resistance of the cladding of the other fuel elements.
