STUDIES ON THE RADIOLYSIS OF AQUEOUS POTASSIUM IODIDE SOLUTIONS

Investigations were carried out to study the effect of H/sup +/ion concertration on the yield of iodine formed by irradiation in aqueous potassium iodide solutions. Results showed a slight increase in G(d in the range of pH = 3.3 to 1.5, whereas with a further decrease in pH a sharp rise was to be observed. Explanations were attempted on the basis of radical theory, but in order to fully clarify the oxidation mechanism, further investigations seem to be necessary. (auth)
