Quantitative investigation of the spin relationships of nuclear interactions at high energies requires the determination of the scattering of protons on protons and neutrons by accelerator studies; in such works in addition to nonpolarized and transversally polarized beams, the longitudinally polarized ones must also be taken into account. Such a program was carried out with the help of the 6-m synchrocyclotron of the Joint lnstitute for Nuclear lnvestigations at Dubna on the basis of a proposal of S. B. Nurushev et al. (JINI Preprint No. P-278, 1959). The polarization scattering work was carried out in the vertical plane above the synchrocyclotron chamber; a longitudinally polarized beam was obtained in the horizontal plane and the polarization vector was directed parallel or antiparallel to the proton pulse in the beam. The flux density was 2 x 10/sup 6/ protons/ cm/sup 2/ sec. Analysis of the secondary p + p scattering on a polyethylene scatterer type polarimeter indicated an absence of vertical and transversal polarization components. (TTT)
