Journal Article · · Proc. Roy. Soc. Med., v. 67, no. 1, pp. 29-31

Some physical properties of proton beams are described and their applicability to therapy discussed. The similarity of the proton beams avatlable from the Harwell and Harvard Synchrocyclotrons is stressed, and some details are given of a proposal made to the Medical Research Council to use the 160 MeV Harwell synchrocyclotron for proton therapy by emulating the work of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. Note is also taken of the use of proton beam therapy for treatment as carried out at Harvard, Berkeley, Uppsala and Dubna. (auth)
