ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF N-BUTANOL IN MIXTURES OF TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE AND KEROSENE (INFRA-RED ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4737887
The sample is treated with nitrous acid to convert the 1-butanol to butyl nitrite. The optical density is measured at 1655 cm/sup -1/, the absorption at this wave length being ascribed to the N-O linkage. The method may be used for specification tests on tributyl phosphate or for inspecting TBP/OK feed solutions, and is based on standard chemical and infrared techniques. (R.J.S.)
