ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF SMALL AMOUNTS OF BUTEX IN MIXTURES OF TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE AND KEROSENE (INFRA-RED ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4750022

The sample is washed with a solution of sodium carbonate and examined with in infrared spectrometer. The absorption of radiation at 1118 cm/sup -1/, which is ascribed to the C-O-C linkage, is measured and from this the concentration of butex obtained. The method is designed primarily for the determination of butex in mixtures of tributyl phosphate and kerosene which are used in the Uranium Purification Plant, and is based on standard chemical and infrared techniques.
