ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF KEROSENE DEGRADATION PRODUCTS IN MIXTURES OF TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE AND KEROSENE (INFRA-RED ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4772389

The sample is washed with water and optical density measurements made at 1558, 1637, and 1735 cm/sup -1/. The absorption at these frequencies is ascribed to the C-NO/sub 2/, O-NO/sub 2/, and C--O groups respectively and is used as a measure of the concentration of kerosene degradation products in the sample. If uranyl nitrate is present in the sample it is removed by washing with sodium carbonate solution before measuring the absorption of the radiation. The method is designed to give an arbitrary measure of the amount of kerosene degradation products in nominally 20% tributyl phosphate in kerosene mixtures. (auth)
