HEAT OF SOLUTION OF CERIUM METAL IN HYDROCHLORIC ACID

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4737663

Heats of solution of Ce metal and cerium(III) chloride in HCl were measured. The standard heat of formation of the aqueous cerium(IIn ion at 25 deg C is--166.1 plus or minus 0.3 kcal/mole. Heats of solution of cerium(III) chloride in HCl are consistent with the existence of a complex CeCl/sup 2+/ having a stability constant of 1 and a heat of complexing of 5.4 kcal/ mole. (auth)
