SURVIVAL OF RATS AFTER PARTIAL AND WHOLE BODY IRRADIATION WITH FRACTIONATED X-RAY DOSES (in French)

Journal Article · · Annales de Radiologie (France)
OSTI ID:4734832

Irradiation of the head, thorax, or abdomen of rats with a total dose of 600 r of x rays, delivered in 12 doses of 50 r each, does not shorten life, as was demonstrated previously in the case of single doses of the same order of magnitude. The incidence of cancer is increased only in rats which have received repeated irradiation of the abdomen. These results correspond to what the authors predicted from their study of the relationship between the dose of irradiation and the shortening of life in animals given whole body irradiation in single and fractionated doses of x or gamma rays.
