A CALCULATIONAL METHOD TO DETERMINE GAMMA HEATING IN INFINITE SOURCE MEDIA
A time-independert technique to calculate gamma energy deposition in materials composing an infinite homogeneous medium cortainlng a uniform source was developed to study trends in nuclear heating. The cross section input is used in the code for calcuiating probabilities of events or branching ratios, and energy down-scatter. These quantities are used to determine the allocation of the photon energies of a specified source spectrum to the constituent elements of the medium. A single problem is run in a few seconds on the IBM 7090 computer. (J.R.D.)
