ASSEMBLAGE OF SOLID MODERATOR WITH A SQUARE LATTICE FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS
The assemblage of the solid moderator for a nuclear reactor consists of a plurality of adjacent vertical columns each column comprising moderator blocks, of large vertical dimension in relation to the square cross section, provided with vertical axial ducts forming the reactor channels. These columns are spaced from each other and are distributed in two coaxial sets, the cross sections of the columns of the central set being smaller than the cross sections of the columns of the marginal set, so that for neutron flux flattening in the center there is a higher fuel concentration than in the periphery region. Each block is, in each column, separated from the following by a parallelepiped moderator element, these elements forming at different levels horizontal beds, while means are provided for connecting adjacent columns at the level of each of said horizontal beds. Preferably these connecting means are constituted of parallelepiped keys engaging in vertical keyways provided in the sidefaces of adjacent elements to be connected. (IIB)
