ASSEMBLAGE OF SOLID MODERATOR FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS
An assemblage of solid moderator for nuclear reactors comprises a plurality of columns disposed side by side according to a regular lattice. Each column is provided with an axial reactor channel formed by a series of prismatic elements disposed one upon another and having a polygonal external contour. The joining between the columns is effected by keys which are parallel to at least three planes passing through the axis of the columns and which fit into longitudinal keyways provided in the side faces of the elements. Each element is constituted by an assemblage of identical prisms of which one of the longitudinal side faces comprises part of the internal wall of the channel axially traversing the column. Each element, in the same column, is displaced angularly, with respect to both the adjacent elements of the same column in such a way that the contact planes of the prisms of one element are not in alignment with the corresponding contact planes of said adjacent elements. The said external contour of each tubular element may be e.g., a regular hexagon, a square or a flattened hexagon having two axes of symmetry. (IIB)
