CHARGE SYMMETRY IN THE MIRROR REACTIONS Li$sup 6$(d,p)Li$sup 7$ AND Li$sup 6$(d,n)Be$sup 7$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
A comparative study of the Li/sup 6/(d,p)Li/sup 7/ and Li/sup 6/(d,n)Be/ sup 7 / reactions was made in order to serve as a critical test of the principle of charge symmetry in nuclear reactions. The ground and first excited states of Li/sup 7/ and Be/sup 7/ are believed to be pure isobaric spin doublets. The need for substantial Coulomb and phase space corrections was eliminated since the ratios of the ground to first excited state cross sections are compared. The observed equality of the neutron and proton results over the bombarding energy range 0.4-3.2 Mev may be taken as a striking and model independent confirmation of the principle of charge symmetry. An interesting anomaly in the angular distribution results was observed that does not seem explainable in ordinary distorted wave stripping theory. (auth)
