LEVELS OF CERIUM-141 AND CERIUM-144 IN SURFACE FALLOUT SAMPLES COLLECTED AT BOMBAY DURING THE MONSOON MONTHS OF 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4727492
Measurements on the levels of cerium-141 and cerium144 in the surface fallout samples collected at Bombay during June to October 1962 were carried out. The ratios of cerium-141 to cerium-144 activities in these samples were also studied. An increase in the deposition of Ce-144 was observed during the middle of July and middle of September when there were comparatively heavy rains. The increase in Ce-141 activity during the months of August and September was attributed to the arrival of fresh debris. Peaks were also observed in the ratio Ce-141 to Ce-144 during the months of August and September. Chemical procedures used for the separation of cerium from the samples are described. (auth)
