STUDIES ON RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATION IN DIFFERENT ORGANS OF HUMAN BEINGS DUE TO GROWING INCREMENT OF RADIOACTIVE FALL-OUT

Changes in radioactive contamination of organs from June 1956 to Feb. 1958 are described. Radioactive contamination showed a gradual increase during this period, expressed as cpm/g. The increase was greatest in the gonads (testes and ovaries) followed by spleen, lungs, kidneys, and liver. In pathological organs radioactivity was usually weaker than in corresponding healthy organs, except that radioactivity was higher in pathological than in normal kidneys. In children the ribs showed the highest increase in radioactivity; in adults the lungs and the liver; and in old people the kidneys. Radioactivity in the lungs and liver showed a greater increase in out-door than in in-door workers. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2: No. 12, Dec. 1962)
