Experiments were carried out in mice to determine whether procaine shows altered pharmacologic activity in irradiated animals. The mice were x irradiated with 700 r. (LD/sub 99.5/30/) and the convulsive action of procaine was tested 7 days later by intraperitoneal injection of 38 to 91 g of the drug per gram body weight. The mean convulsive dose for unirradiated animals was 44 g/g and the same dose was found in irradiated mice. The respective procaine LD/sub 50/ values were 74 and 72 g/g. Body weight of the irradiated mice fell 15% in the 7-day period. The results indicate that the sensitivity of the mouse to procaine is not affected by the radiation syndrome. (H.H.D.)
