IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4724966
A nuclear power plant includes a boiling water reactor with a water reflector, a steam turbine, and a condenser. A steam by-pass line connects the steam outlet duct of the reactor with the condenser via successively throttle means and a valve opering the by-pass in case the steam pressure in the reactor surpasses a given value. A reflector discharge line connects the base of the reflector via valves with the condenser, while a feeding line connects the condenser via a pump with the top of the reflector space. A further line connects the reflector discharge line with the steam by-pass line and well between its throttle means and its valve. The pressure drop caused by the throttle means in the steam by-pass line induces, in the case of a too high steam pressure, water from the reflector to be conveyed with-the steam flow in the by- pass line, in order to lower the reflector level for diminishing the reactivity.
