IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO GAS TURBINE POWER PLANTS
A closed cycle gas turbine power plant is described in which changes of load affect only the output turbine and do not affect the other rotating members of the plant. This plant may be, e.g., a nuclear power plant in which the heat output of the reactor is held constant for all turbine outputs from zero to full power. Suitably, the embodiment encloses a primary gas curcuit for reactor cooling transferring the heat via a heat exchanger to a secondary working circuit enclosing among other things the said output turbine. This output turbine is provided with a by-pass duct in which the by-passed gas is cooled by an auxiliary heat exchanger, a valve eontrolling the passage of fluid through this by-pass duct. A branch in said by-pass duct by-passes the said auxiliary heat exchanger, while a valve within said branch controls the passage of fluid through it. The point of entry of said by-pass duct into an outlet duct of the output turbine is situated upstream of a throttle valve provided in this outlet duct, while the point of entry of said branch into said outlet duct is situated downstream of the throttle valve. These valves control the flows in the by-pass and in its branch in such a manner that both the pressure and the temperature in the end of the outlet duct are held constant. (NPO)
