THE ANGULAR SCATTERING OF 6.9-Mev PROTONS BY CHROMIUM AND ZINC ISOTOPES (in Russian)

Thin, metallic foils enriched in Cr/sup 50/, Cr/sup 52/, Cr/sup 53/, Cr/ sup 5 Zn/sup 64/, Zn/sup 68/, or Zn/sup 70/ were irradtated with 6.8-Mev protons, and the angular distribution of elastically scattered protons was measured on a 50 channel, CsI(Tl) scintillation spectrometer over the angular region of 20 to 180 deg at each 5 deg with an angular error of plus or minus 0.3 deg . The ratio of the experimental cross section to the Rutherford cross section tering measurements on the chromium isotopes at 40, 50, and 80 deg by a comparative method with respect to gold, for which the scattering is purely Coulombic for the energies used. A plot of sigma /sub exp// sigma /sub Ruth./ versus the scattering angle is presented. The scattering on Cr/sup 52/ at large angles was greater than on Cr/sup 53/ and Cr/sup 54/, and the scattering on Cr/sup 50/ was significantly more intensive than on Cr/sup 52/. The threshold for a (p,n) reaction on Cr/sup 50/ was 8.0 Mev, and on Cr/sup 52/ it was 5.63 Mev. The elastic scattering reaction on Cr/sup 52/ was found to compete with the (p,n) reaction. The threshold for the (p,n) reaction on Zn was 8.0 Mev, but no sharp increase in the intensity of elastically scattered protons could be observed on this nucleide at large angles. A typical diffraction type of scattering was observed. Further research is required to explain this anomalous'' angular behavior of Zn/sup 64/ (TTT)
