DETERMINATION OF HISTIDINE DECARBOXYLASE ACTIVITY BY LIQUID SCINTILLATION COUNTING OF C$sup 14$$O$$sub 2$

Journal Article · · Anal. Biolchem.

A simple and rapid method for the determination of histidine decarboxylase activity by liquid scintillation counting of C/sup 14/O/sub 2/ is described. Radioactive CO/sub 2/ produced by carboxyl-labeled L-hiatidine is trapped by aqueous Hyamine hydroxide spread on filter paper edged with paraffin wax. The radioactive Hyamine carbonate is assayed in a liquid scintillation counter. The method can detect the decarboxylation of 0.001 g L-histidine. (P.C.R.)
