Hyamine hydroxide in a dioxane-naphthalene-water system was found to hold relatively large amounts of biological materials and to give a high counting efficiency for liquid scintillation. The counting efficiencies of H/sup 3/- leucine by toluene-hyamine and by hyamine-water-dioxane systems were compared. The counting efficiencies were found to be comparable. However, sample preparation was much easier and faster with the hyamine-water-dioxane system. The counting efffciencies of Ha-toluene in the presence of various biological compounds are tabulated.
