The reaction of Np(V) with chlorophosphonazo III (3.6bisSTA(4-chloro-2- phosphonophenyl)azo!-4, 5-dihydroxy-2, 7naphthalenedisulfonic acid was studied. Molar absorption coefficient in photometric determination of Np(V) with the reagent is 58,600 at 672 m . It is shown that Np(V) and chlorophosphonazo(III) are in 1: 1 ratio, with an instability constant 4.0 x 10/sup -6/. Using masking substances neptunium can be determined without preliminary separation. (R.V.J.)
