COMPATIBILITY FACTORS INFLUENCING THE ACCEPTANCE OF RAT BONE MARROW GRAFT BY THE IRRADIATED MOUSE

Journal Article · · Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4720262
Studies on marrow from humans, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, and hamsters showed that rat bone marrow is the only heterologous marrow that is acceptable to the irradiated mouse. Other rodent erythrocytes are basically incompatible in the mouse and are rapidly destroyed even by the irradiated mouse recipient. The implications of the findings in relation to the acceptance of heterologous bone marrow grafts are discussed. One suggestion is the marked antigenic similarity of the mouse and rat erythrocyte.
