An analytical method is described for the rapid determination of praseodymium in samples which contain neodymium or other rare earth elements by means of activation with 14-Mev neutrons. The instrument used is made up of three-channel pneumatic system, Cockcroft-Walton design 14-Mev neutron generator, and measuring system of the annihilation gamma rays of positrons emitted from Pr/sup 140/ by the coincidence method. At a praseodymium level of 0 to 20%, the accuracy of the method is 450 deg C in a 3% and is comparable with that of the conventional method such as photometric or gravimetric method. (auth)
